Foreign Policy Traditions
Hamiltonian: Views the world primarily as a marketplace. Advocates enhancing America's position in global commerce and emphasises the growth of commerce and institutions supporting it.
Jeffersonian: Prioritises democracy and individualism and is wary of institutions; often labelled isolationist or nationalist. Focuses on domestic democratic development over foreign entanglements.
Jacksonian: Populist and belligerent; supports strong defence and quick action to defend American honour and interests. Emphasises victory and national strength.
Wilsonian: Liberal internationalist; believes in America's mission to save the world and make it safe for democracy. Supports international institutions and cooperative global efforts.
